I walked down Castro Street and first had an oatmeal cookie at ‘Hot Cookie’.

Right after I met a street musician and we hang out and talked a lot about jazz and blues. He was from Washington, about 70 years old, well dressed and he gave me a CD with his songs recorded.

When I got a bit hungry I had a swiss cheese omlette and a glass of Riesling at the famous restaurant ‘Harvey’s’ named after Harvey Milk the hero of the 70s gay movement.

The waiter was so nice so I gave him a big tip, the other barkeeper made a fake jealousy scene out of it.. I had so much fun with those guys!
I went to the Human Rights Campaign store and it turned out that this house is Harvey’s old store ‘Castro Camera’. There I bought a bracelet and learned that the colorful flag logo is kind of being replaced by the equal sign.

At GLBT museum I met Steve. He was working as a teacher in Wisconsin and got fired in 1972 for being gay. He told me a lot about the Castro gay community between the 70s till now. I didn’t know that everything started in Polk street in the Tenderloin and thus, back in the days poverty and homosexuality were two topics much closer together. He also explained to me that racism was a big issue in the Gay Community till the 90s! I think this is one of the most stupidest things I’ve ever heard…people who were victims of police brutality, who were excluded partly by society just didn’t stick together because of race,…and so there were different black, white, native-american and asian clubs for gay men. Lesbians had their “Feminist Sex Wars” which were about different points of views regarding HOW to push forward for women’s rights. Supporting homosexuality or being quiet about that and just fight for womens equality.

After a long day in the Castro I did a little shopping at “Does your mother know” and found a funny accessoire…. Berlin Poppers.

The Comic Art Museum is a must for every fan of man-made draws.
Especially Keith Knight’s comic strips catched my eye. His humor is appealing, bold and snappy and shows political leanings…

….he is illustrating stereotypes…

…he draws about daily topics…

…he also tells stories of his own life…this one is about a fridge situation in L.A. is quite funny, if anyone should find the strip about “Walking in L.A.” please let me know.

…and he just has this gallows humor I like so much!

I am staying in the Financial District at the moment. The weather was so great today that I decided to walk a bit. I love walking alone especially here in San Francisco. So I thought I could walk to Fisherman’s Warf to see the Sea Lions…when I was there I thought I could easily walk to the Golden Gate Bridge and I did. It is a beautiful architectural masterpiece and it feels great to stand on the bridge. The whole thing is shaking, cars and trucks roar past and it is hardly conceivable how many tons this steel construction has to hold out every second…
It was the 75th Anniversary of The Golden Gate Bridge yesterday on February 17th.
Sad Fact: More people die by suicide at the Golden Gate Bridge than at any other site in the world. There is a disturbing documentary about that called “The Bridge” I’m not really sure if I would recommend it, especially the last scene is haunting you forever…
It was my first night in San Francisco and of course the Jetlag hit me hard, so I woke up at 2.30am and couldn’t get back to sleep…
Frederic, who stayed in this apartment before told me to go up to check out the roof terrace and this is the stunning view of a sunrise that morning. It was so peaceful. I am really happy that I’m back in the Bay Area again.

from left to right:
Dominik just joined the team as a SysAdmin Intern, he is ambitious and I’m sure we’re gonna have a fun time.
Anne was our first Office Assistant. She started in June and I couldn’t have done it without her. She is a hard worker and lights up every workday with her caustic remarks and funny jokes! I am really sad to see her leaving SoundCloud but I found a friend an I’m looking forward to hanging out with her as such very soon. I wish her all the best for her future that she’ll find the job, that makes her happy with the recognition she deserves.

I watched “the Green Mile” today for the first time. This movie is outstanding. It reminds me of Celia Shapiros uncomfortable but not ignorable photographs: “the last supper meals for inmates of the death row…
One human being taking another humans being life for good, is one of the strangest and despicable mankind’s habits on this planet.
